cj .i like the don pearcy pictures he was my favorite driver in the 70"s at the speedway.he could start last and still win the race he was that good.first thing after winning a feature he would put the tailgate down on his truck and sit and drink
a jug of cold water.i have a picture of the pepsi machine race car that was so
hard to beat.it was so fast with a big block 454 engine 1965 chevelle.2 years ago don won the mechanic's race here at the charleston speedway.about 3 years ago don fell off a roof and as he was sliding off the roof he grabbed the guttering and ripped and pulled muscles in his arms and that kinda put and end to driving again
got to go get some sleep 5:00 am comes early come visit us some saturday
night.enjoy your website i:ve been telling people about your website keep up
the good work the voice of the charleston and vermilion county speedway

MY INTERVIEW WITH DON PEARCY.......
EAST BAY FLORIDA...2004...........
Last year in 2003 was you curious about the person who was driving the #11car of Ed Roley in the "Mechanic's Race?"......... I was..
Well... he is Don Pearcy...Ed Roley's dad... I got involved in a very interesting conversation with him this weekend at East Bay..
He has drove a lot of different classes and has drove against some pretty well known drivers.
He told me that he had been a racecar driver for 42 years and that he had only one regret......... not quitting 12 years ago and helping Ed Roley get started sooner.... Ed has been driving for three years and is doing a great job..........with Pearcy in his corner he has no where to go but up...
Pearcy started in 1966-67 at the age of 18..
He has raced Late Model.... Sprints... Midgets... Modifieds and mini sprints..
He named off some names of some past drivers that he had raced against ..Said some pretty tough competitors in his time were Bill Shaw of Robinson, Doug McCammon of Palestine , Bob Pierce of Charleston ,Greg Lingafelter of Willow Hill ,Terry Messenger of Robinson and Mike Munson of Oblong.
He raced in Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Ohio.. He raced in Olney at White Squirrel, at Crawford County Speedway in Stoy, Il and at the Charleston track..
I asked him my favorite question.... "what it takes to be a good driver?" and like almost all drivers he said PAITIENCE... and then added DEDICATION.... then went on to say that every race is a different race.. You can not go around with a chip on your shoulder....brush it off and go on to the next one...
He feels one of the most important things and biggest accomplishment is to be able to race a race without ever making contact with another car....driving side by side and getting ever so close but never making contact is a thrill......
He said the toughest competitor he had the pleasure to go up against would have to be Tom Helfrich who is the owner of Tri-State Speedway, Haubstadt, In..
I asked Don what had inspired him to race and he said that he had always had it in him.. As a kid he would race anything and anybody right down to racing his little red wagon...
He told me he did a little "Drag Racing" too... Did it three times and won all three times..
He told me that he had learned a lot of knowledge from all the friends that he picked up along the way in his racing career..
When asked if he had anyone he would like to say "thanks" to he said that he would like to thank Chad Kinder and Will Snyder and Team #22...Said they had been a big help to Ed Roley and him... Said he would like to take this opportunity just to say "Thanks Guys!!! "you guys are great!!!!!!
His best memory was winning his first Championship..
HIs career came to an end when he had a terrible accident falling from a ladder causing him to break his back...
Pearcy...thankyou so much for sharing this story with me.. I enjoyed so much listening to your career... Ed will gain a lot of wisdom and first hand knowledge from you... No wonder he is doing so well after only three years in this sport... He is talented and with your help its a big plus...
