Derrick Hufford is 21 years old and lives in Danville, Illinois
He runs the #p51 modified with a Lou Fegers Chassi and a Rick Hufford Racing Engine.....
I asked if there was a reason behind his number.... he told me it belonged to the car owner Buzz Johnson... said he picked that number because when he was in the Airforce he worked on P51 airplanes....... hmmmmm wonder where the owner got his nickname BUZZ....
Derrick considers Vermillion County his hometrack ...
His favorite track to run is Kankakee...
He started his racing career at age 10 in go-carts then went into a sportman at age 14.....
He went into a modified last year (2008)...
He got his inspiration to race from his grandpa Rick Hufford and his dad Scott Hufford..He said his dad races a sportsman at Kamp and his grandpa races a modified at Kamp...............
The driver he most admires is his grandpa RICK HUFFORD
The drivers he considers his toughest competition: his dad Scott and his grandpa Rick....
To be a good driver Derrick says you have to have a lot of patience...
A goal for Derrick is to win a track championship...
When asked if there was anything in racing he felt needed changed.... COST..
Racing Highlight for Derrick was when he was running with the National Champ Jeremy Hines and his grandpa Rick Hufford for the win last year in Summer Nationals....and he WON....
He likes to race the high groove on a dry slick track....
