KANKAKEE COUNTY SPEEDWAY
KANKAKEE, ILLINOIS
APRIL 24, 2009

Jason Lakey is 39 years old and lives in Urbana, Illinois

He runs the #J16 modified with a Pierce Chassi and a Mullinis Engine...

I asked if there was a reason for the #16... He told me his Uncle John Yearsley used the number J14 so he went with 16...

He claims Vermillion Co, Danville, Il as his hometrack.....and his favorite track to run is Kamp Motor Raceway in Bozwell, Indiana..

Jason started racing at age 21 in the street stock division and went into the modified division in 1997..

I asked Jason what had inspired him to start racing and he told me that he had been watching his Uncle John race ever since he was five years old and he grew up wanting to do it.... He said his family against it and tried to talk him out of it.......**glad they did not succeed...

The driver he most admires is SCOTT BLOOMQUIST

The driver he feels has been his toughest competitor: DENNY SCHWARTZ

To be a good driver Jason says you need to have patience, determination...and...it takes a lot of hard work....

His goal in racing is to get a feature win at Farmer City before he retires...and he would like to win the Richardson Memorial at Vermillion Co....

Anything in racing he feels needs to be changed..... he told me the purse needs to be increased....

A Racing Highlight for him was winning a big race at Kankakee County Speedway...

Jason likes to race the high groove on a dry slick track...

Crew Chief is Toby Hallett and Jason Renfrow..

Jason wanted to give a big thanks out to his dad Bob Lakey and to Bob and Angie Pierce...

Jason...was nice meeting you ... I have seen you race many times ..glad I finally caught up with you for an interview.... goodluck in 2009..
