Was not sure today where we were heading due to rain in the forcast...got the call that we were heading to Danville..... on the way we drove through some sprinkles and was hoping we were not wasting our time.....
They had non wing sprints, modified, crate late model , pure stock and street stock..
There were three heats for the sprints, two for the modified, and I think two for each of the others...
I know they were hoping for more cars for opening night.. I think with the threat of rain in the area it held their car count down...
They had the track in really good shape and the race ran very smoothly... Joe Jeffries, our member Wizard96 is the announcer for Vermillion... He is very informative and knows his racers... Is a very good announcer....
I did not follow the results for the sprints because I did not know many of the drivers..and due to rain we left before their feature started...
I met a couple of new people tonight... u know I love meeting people... one guy just moved here from Tampa, Florida and is a big sprint fan.... the other was a sweet gentleman who just turned 87 the 9th of April... he , Francis, is the father of retired modified driver Jerry Hathaway...#66.... I enjoyed talking with him....
I seen Joe Jeffries heading to the announcers booth and headed over to say hello...
Joe is a super nice guy....
The hot laps started and we were all hoping that the rain would hold off...
In the hot laps for the sprints the #88 took a nasty flip right in front of the grandstand... It looked bad....but... the driver got out of his sprint and waved that he was ok... was glad to see that.... audience applauded...
The rest of hot laps went off without any excitement...now the heats
The only drivers I knew were the modifieds so they were the ones I recorded...
I seen Scott Dunlap in street stocks... in his heat he finished 2nd and looked pretty strong....
In the first heat for the modifieds you had Wenger and McClara on front row, 2nd row was Lakey and #0...3rd row was #63 and the #20...4th row was Chad Kinder and #39..last row was Don Kiger #01 and the #P51....... only two incidents in this heat...... on first lap the #20 went over the burn in turn one..... a caution came out for the #01 of Kiger who spins coming out of turn one.... finish: Kinder, Lakey, Wenger, McClara, #20, #39, #P51
In heat two on front row was Arby Burton and Gordon Curtis, 2nd row was Reynolds and #z56, 3rd row was Josh Fergerson and Ryan Cary, 4th row was #33 and Roger Cary..tail was #88s..... there was no incidents in this heat...finish: Curtis, Reynolds, Ryan Cary, Roger Cary, Josh Fergerson...
In feature Kinder and Curtis front row
2nd row: Lakey and Reynolds
3rd row Wenger and Ryan Cary
4th row McClara and Roger Cary
5th row #39 and Fergerson
6th row Kiger and #20
7th row #63 and #88s
8th row #0 and #56
9th row#p51 and #33
10th row Arby Burton
When the green flag dropped Jason Lakey had already jumped the gun and took off in front ..when they were going through turn two they bunched up and Jason got sideways and Kinder connected and there were others that made contact as well...no one had to pull off............ Jason Lakey was called for jump start so had to restart...
this time Kinder got out in front ..........only one lap was in when the #0 spins coming out of turn 1 bringing out the caution....top five were: Kinder, Lakey, Reynolds, Ry Cary, Curtis...
on restart the #0 pulls off the track....
Kinder got into lap traffic......passed the #74 of Burton, passed the #56.....
caution three comes out with ten to go for the #33r who spins in turn four...top five are: Kinder, Lakey, Reynolds, Ry Cary, Rog Cary and Wenger..
the #56 pulls off with five to go...
finish: CHAD KINDER, Lakey, Reynolds, Ry Cary, Wenger, Roger Cary, Fergerson, Kiger, McClara,
I am looking forward to heading back to Danville this year... atmosphere was really friendly... track looked good,... .. think people will be happy with Danville this year...
