October 2nd, 2008 (thursday)..

We left for Eldora around 9:30 a.m. and took are time and enjoyed the scenery...

The years before when we had went to Eldora we were usually about the third camper there and only a couple of race cars...... To my amazement there were several campers already there and cars already lined up......
We settled in and then headed to the track.... I love this track.... but... I really missed seeing Bernice and seeing Earl riding around on the grader or seeing him in his track running up and down the roads checking security...

It was very touching to see the statues of Earl and Bernice in the grandstand...

Walking back to the parking lot I took pictures of the rigs lined up and some of the campers that were already there thursday....

We ate dinner and then sit back and watched the rigs roll in until it got to dark to see anymore.... we headed to bed....

friday, October 3, 2008......

I couldn't wait to get up and get around so I could go outside and see all the rigs that had pulled in thru the night.... we always park in the last row before the road the rigs start lining up on....
I spent my morning taking pictures of the rigs parked in front of us...

This was my favorite rig.......loved the colors: and took plenty of pictures of it smile.gif
It belonged to DON MIHELICH fron Paw Paw, Mi....

and here came Chad Kinder #22s.... he told me he was by himself this weekend..his crew all had to work.... they had just been in Minnesota a couple of weeks before where he destroyed both his cars.... thanks to Don Adams he was able to race at Brownstown last weekend and Don wanted him to race at Eldora.... **Don and his team came and helped Chad this weekend along with my son inlaw on friday and then Tim Holt came up on Saturday to help.... Chad said this was the first time this had ever happened to him.. AND.... a big help to Chad this weekend was ED ROLEY... he helped with driving to Eldora ......***Ed told me that Chad didn't even know how to get to Eldora....he has never had to drive it*** lol. .. and Ed went back n forth between his car and Chad's helping out..... Ed's dad Don Pearcy drove Ed's trailer to Eldora for him and also helped Chad as well........... Chad was fortunate to have so many friends helping him out...

then came my friends Jeff, Pam and Justin Leka......Jeff Leka is the UMP 2008 National Champion.....

The rigs were let into the pit area starting at eleven oclock I believe.... Howie and I had bought our pit passes earlier... we ate lunch and headed to the pit area...
cj22carcar
the years before that I had been to Eldora they would always fill the infield up ..then fill up the over flow on top of the hill..............well....things have changed.... they now only put the late model in the infield and the drivers that do double duty with both late model and modified...............sorry folks..... I never made it into the infield..... if you have been to Eldora you know how far that is to walk.... I decided to stay on the top and do my picture taking and interviews.... so I did not get any late model....... and I missed Scott Orr and Doug Adkins because they were in the infield....
I first went .......of course... smile.gif to Chad Kinder's pit area to see how he was doing and if he was hungry.......he had told me he was going to be by himself and scant on food..... lol..... he was fine.... Geena took real good care of his hunger pains...
I then went over to the scales to take some pictures...... Chad did not pass inspection and neither did a lot of others..... at this time Chad was still by himself...Donnie Adams had not arrived yet so he was very busy.....
My son inlaw Mike Buddell (miknmic) arrived at around two thirty and went over to see if he could help out some...

Saturday, Oct 4, 2008..

No one was getting around real early in the parking lot but I guess a lot was going on in the pit area....
We were parked next to some fans of Mike Harrison... they told my husband that the #24 crew had worked on his car til 4 a.m..........but........it is ready to race.....
I talked with one of the crew of the #3 Jeff Harris bunch.... they had a lot of work to do on their car as well.... saturday morning Jeff left to go watch his son's baseball game... I kept going back trying to catch him for an interview but never did....
Chad Kinder and his new temporary #22 crew had been working on his car as well..... Chad said he had no traction in his heat and the brakes seemed to be dragging...they worked all morning on the car and found the problem......AND you could see that when he went out for the consi and the feature.... smile.gif
Last night Pam Leka came to tell me that their 2008 National Champion tee shirts came in..... they are sharp !!!!!!

We decided to head to the pit area around one pm... ran into Tim Holt and his wife...we talked with them til the pit gates opened...

I will get them on as soon as I can...

While in the pit area I learned that Kent Robinson offered his back up car to Denny Schwartz so that he could race.... Kent had first offered it to Jeff Leka but Denny had already offered his to Jeff....... so .... both Jeff Leka and Denny Schwartz would be going into a consi...

Before the RACE OF CHAMPIONS they brought out the 2008 UMP CHAMPION OF MODIFIEDS " JEFF LEKA" AND THE 2008 UMP CHAMPION OF LATE MODELS "DENNIS ERB"

Michael Harrison was totally in charge of this race... He got out in front and stayed there all 25 laps and was not really challenged for the lead...
The #21d of Danny Schwartz must have pulled out pretty early in race because I don't have him recorded in any of my lap scores...
Lap 3 to 15 it was Harrison, Hawkins, Robinson, Adkins, Asberry, Orr and Bex...
by lap 15 the #360 of Michael Asberry slows on the track and pulls off..the running order now is Harrison, Hawkins, Robinson with the #00 of Arpin coming up from 17th...
at lap 20 the #21s of Jeff Leka pulled off.....
running order now is Harrison, Hawkins, Robinson, Arpin, Adkins, Orr, Bex and the #09 of Chad Kinder coming up through the crowd from 20th....
