When we got there they were watering the track... looked like they were putting to much water on it...... but ... lol.... that is why I am not in charge of track prep
The track worked up really great and there was a lot of passing on it.... it sure was not follow the leader..... I would say it was one of the best conditioned tracks I have been to all season....
Not long after arriving our partners in crime arrived....Gennie, Mark and little Jenna..
Becky Robinson and daughter Bethany and Kent's girlfriend (sorry the name slipped from my memory banks) came to the stands to see me... had been a while since I had seen them.... Becky said that Kent had been having a really bad month and slipped from 3rd in UMP points to 5th... they really needed a good finish tonight...unfortunately.. his bad luck followed him.... Kent has done excellent this year and should be proud of everything he has accomplished in such a short racing career.... Becky told me they parked next to Chad Kinder and she told him she wanted Chad to rub some of his luck onto Kent..... Chad said.....oh no...he don't want me to do that... I havent had much of that this year either...!!!!!
There were 48 modifieds there.... from the Illinois area Chad Kinder, Larry Anderson, Everett Bradham, Denny Schwartz, Matt Huddleston, Ed Roley , Ryan Carey and Mike Boylard was in attendance....
Fast qualifier was Shelby Miles with 16.520 and was in group one...2nd group was Kent Robinson with 16.638 from group two, 3rd group was John Demoss with 16.971 .4th group was Everett Bradham with 17.601 and Clayton Miller was 17.068 in last group..
Chad Kinder qualified with a time of 16.743, Matt Huddleston 16.963 , Ed Roley 17.165, Mike Boylard 17.224, Denny Schwartz 17.524 , Larry Anderson 17.326 and Ryan Carey 17.844....
I like the group qualifying....
Chris Nunn came and sit down by me while announcing the heats so I got to copy the names of some of the drivers I didn't know.... "thanks Chris"...
Well they inverted top four........you know how I feel about inverting.... I think it is dumb..... you go out and qualify the best you can and then get punished for it...don't make sense.............and no... I don't think it makes the racing more exciting...puts slower cars in front of faster cars = accidents....
In the heats there was no passing but as the night went on the track got fast..by feature there was passing..
Heat one had Herbert, Pohlman, Miles, Thomas and Bex in it.... Herbert got out in the lead and stayed there til the finish.. right at the beginning of the race the #16 of Gibbs and the #b1 of Browning collided in turn three..#16 pulled off..... The #27 of Pohlman tried to put heat on Herbert but could not get by him...Shelby Miles took the last transfer spot for the feature..
In heat two...Humphrey, Chad Kinder, Clint Demoss, Kent Robinson, and Matt Boknecht.........Humphrey started the pole and shot out to the lead...Kinder was on outside front row and he stayed there ..... was good to see Chad in that Lightning chassi and challenging for first....he was lookin good out there....Devin Gilpin took the 3rd transfer spot..
In heat three was Groomer, Huddleston, John Demoss, Doug Adkins....
a caution came out when the #0 spins...2nd caution comes out for the #35w who spins... Groomer and Huddleston started on front row and finished that was Demoss finished 3rd..
In heat four Roley and Reed started on front row and Roley held on to the lead for a while and then Reed slipped around him...but here came the #19 of Marty Oneal who passed to take the lead...Reed 2nd and Roley 3rd......only one caution for the #57 of Pettyjohn...
Heat five Larry Anderson and Lee was on front row.... Larry Anderson really looked strong... he shot out to the lead and led a couple of laps...he made a misbobble in turn four giving Clayton the opportunity to get by him.... Clayton and Larry made for an exciting race til Larry started slowing and came to a stop in turn 2...he had to pull off..... that was too bad..... Clayton Miller won with the #90 of Roberts taking 2nd and Sheeks 3rd..
Consi one had a lot of cautions in it....everyone was trying to earn those two transfer spots......the #78 of Demoss and the #d1 of Ryan Thomas put on a good battle with Demoss edging out Thomas for the lead....was a caution for the #22 of Davis....next caution came for a pile up in turn four involving Adkins, Carey and Warren....next caution was for the #22 of Boknecht, the #2h of Hayden and the #43L of Larry Anderson.... all three had to pull off...man Larry....what luck....next caution comes out when the #B1 of Browning stops on track..the #461 of Randy Lee spins trying to miss him and the #22 went over the burm on the right side trying to miss him..........two to transfer was Clint Demoss and Ryan Thomas....
In consi two ...it had only two cautions.... the #21s started on front row outside..he shot out to the lead right away and stayed there...Kent Robinson moved up from 3rd to take the transfer spot....
They had a dash of six cars ... the winner would be a provisional for the feature.. Sorry...not sure how these six were picked.... they told but I missed it... this was a really good race... Jerry Davis and Randy Lee were front row, 2nd row was Tim Rivers and Brandon Short, 3rd row was Dennis Boknecht and Matt Boknecht...
didn't take Brandon Short long to get out in front..... in the meantime the action was in the back watching the #22 of Matt Boknecht flying to the front.... by last lap he was inches away from passing Brandon Short at the line..... very exciting race...... Brandon Short goes to feature.....
Now the 100 lap race..... the track was really looking good, minimal dust....
They did not have the driver's introduction before the race which i think is fine...at half time Chris Nunn went from driver to driver and talked with them.... I liked that...
Herbert and Humphrey front row
Groomer and Oneal 2nd row
C. Miller and Pohlman 3rd
Chad Kinder and Matt Huddleston 4th
Ed Roley and Roberts 5th
Shelby Miles and Gilpin 6th
John Demoss and Reed 7th
Sheeks and Clint Demoss 8th
Schwartz and Thomas 9th
Kent Robinson and Brandon Short 10th
Humphrey moved out the the early lead with Marty Oneal right behind him then Herbert ,Groomer, Miller , Roberts , Huddleston, Kinder, Pohlman..
Marty Oneal quickly took the lead from Humpfrey...by lap 12 it is Oneal, Humphrey and Groomer...
by lap 20 it was Oneal, Huddleston, Humphrey, Miller, Kinder, Roberts, John Demoss, Groomer..
Kinder gets around Miller for 4th.....it is Oneal, Huddleston, Humphrey , Kinder, Miller Demoss
by lap 29 it is Oneal, Huddleston, Kinder, Humphrey, Demoss, Miller , Schwartz, Clint Demoss, Pohlman, Miles and #11..
Oneal has lapped all the way up to 12th.........and there is a large gap to 2nd place car of Huddleston.... Kinder is trying to get around lap car of #G1 to take on Huddleston...
Ryan Thomas pulls off the track...
running order is Oneal, Huddleston, Kinder, Demoss, Humphrey, Schwartz, C Demoss, Miller, MIles, Pohlman, Roley, Robinson...
Kent Robinson brings out a caution when he goes over burm in two...45 laps are in..5 to go to half...
running order at half.
Oneal, Huddleston, Kinder, J Demoss, Schwartz, Humphrey, C Demoss, Miller, Pohlman, Miles, Roley, Robinson
on restart the #48 of Groomer brings out a caution when he goes over burm...before restart the #19 of Oneal who had been leading whole race and lapped the field up to 12th pulled off the track with a broken drive shaft... what a bummer...
now somewhere here I missed John Demoss passing both Huddleston and Kinder for 2nd.........with Oneal gone Demoss takes over the lead... Kinder had taken over 2nd...now it is Demoss, Kinder, Huddleston, Schwartz, Humphrey, Miles Demoss, Miller......by lap 61 Kent Robinson pulls off...
by lap 67 it was Demoss who had a marginal lead and then Chad Kinder and Denny Schwartz.... man talk about flash backs........watching these two race side by side...changing positions back n forth.... what excitement .....Chad then pulled away...
Pohlman pulls off
John Demoss won the 100 lap race coming from 13th.... Chad Kinder after winning the two previous Fall Nationals held by Brownstown settled for 2nd.. Denny Schwartz took 3rd and Shelby Miles 4th... Matt Huddleston who ran strong all day finished with a strong 5th place......
Was an exciting race..... if Chad couldn't win I am glad that John Demoss did.... very deserving win...... after the race John went to the infield and did some burn outs which thrilled the crowd.....
Was good to see Chad running back up in front again... has been a rough season for him..... looking forward to next weekend.... and from all of Chad Kinder fans..."THANKS DONNIE ADAMS "!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! for letting Chad use the Lightning housecar............
We was on the road by ten thirty..... great night of racing
