Brushcreek Motor Speedway
Peebles, Ohio
August 1 and 2, 2008

We went to the track on thursday to check it out... it was in a really pretty setting..........foothills all around.............I loved them til I had to walk a few times from the pit area to the grandstands laugh.gif ......that was a longggggg walk and up and down the hill....
The track was not an oval shape ..more like a D ..... the bleachers were some of the best bleachers I have sit in and in great shape.....facilities were also in good shape...........as far as the food..........it was so HOT you didn't feel like eatting..I had a funnel cake and a hot pretzel....they were both delicious .. so i am sure the food was as well...
Temps were around 95% on friday.....very very very hot.....
My hubby dropped me off at the pitgate and as I was getting out Kent Robinson's mom and dad "Becky and JB" pulled in......... well...I couldn't go into the pit area without talking with Becky....It had been a long time since I seen them.... I told them my woo's of the week so far and then headed to the pit area..
There was several cars in the pit and were still coming in at almost five.....they ended up with 67 cars..
I went to Team #22 area and talked to the boys...Chad saw how hot I was and told me to go into the hauler and cool down.... that sure helped..
I got seven interviews (Chris Stotts #s8..Jerry Bowersock #20...Rob Leemaster.....Brian Whiteman #52...Dan Reno #22...Weasel Rhoades #68..Justin Carlson #16) and then came back to the pit for three more after learning there was an eleven year old racing one of them...(Steven Partin #71...Randy (dad) and Dustin (son) Hunt...........
The only Illinois boy that I found in the pit area was my guy Chad Kinder #22s..and Kent Robinson, John DeMoss and Joey Kramer from Indiana...I had seen several of the guys race before..the local guys I didn't know....
Steve Arpin, Jared Landers, Don Adams and Shawn Tolson were familar names..
On friday I went over and got some new pictures of Steve Arpin and took a couple of pictures of him and now his wife..they are so cute..... My son just recently got burned pretty bad working on a car (radiator).. his wife gave me several tips on what Doug should do.......thankyou very much cutie...
I went wayyyyy back in the field where Joey Kramer was so I could take some new pictures of him... He is another one I always look for.... I asked Joey why he parked back in the woods and he said he needed the room for his rig...he said man I shoulda brought my weed whacker... I told him if I got chiggers I was gonna blame him....
I didn't get to run into Shawn Tolson til saturday... he is always a great one to talk with.. I got some new pics of him as well.....
They did group qualifying and then the winners of each heat drew for starting spot in feature....
OUt of the 67 there were three that qualified in the 15's....
1..Weasel Rhoades #68.........15.670......group one (won last seven races at this track)
2..Dave Jameson #D5............15.803......group one (pts leader at the track)
3..Chris Stotts #s8................15.988.....group one

Joey Kramer got out to the lead and never looked back....
a caution comes out before third lap was in...involved the #1 of Maro, the #7r of Robinson and another #1.....**later I learned that Kent had been hit pretty hard and had bent his headers ....he stayed in for another lap getting into the #0 of Dixon causing him to spin....the #0 got his spot back...Kent said he had to pull off...
With three laps in running order was Kramer, Rhoades, Arpin, Donnie Adams ,Moro,Stotts, Hawkins, J Adams, Hess, Landers, Kinder, Hartman and Bowersock...
with five laps in Kramer..Rhoades..Arpin..d Adams..Stotts..Hess

lap #35....Kramer..Rhoades...Hartman..Don Adams ..#1

I quit trying to score... I couldn't see... I jotted down what was on the pole and looked for key people I knew...

Bottom line was that Joey Kramer won the $1000 feature and looked very strong...no one had anything for him.... The #68 of Weasel Rhoades gave him a run a couple of times but then he broke down on the back stetch on the last lap and had to be pulled off the track....
Donnie Adams took the second spot and Hartman 3rd..Kitchen 4th , Hess 5th..Arpin 6th...Hawkins 7th,

day 2
August 2nd, 2008

We left for the track about the same time as yesterday... my son inlaw and two grandsons met us at the track.... they came up from Avilla, Indiana.... Mark and Genie Bare also came today....
After spending some time with my grandsons Jay and Dylan hubby dropped me off at the pit area....... I once again stopped and talked with my friend Becky Robinson.. Kent told me about his header on the car and about spinning out the #0 of Dixon...he said he could not help it.... He went to the pit area of Dixon and apologized.......Dixon was fine with it.........***wish I had been able to of interviewed him***
Headed for the pit area... today I interviewed Dave Hess,jr #44h...Jamey Adams #9....Rob Stambaugh #48...Louie Krushansky and Jacob Hawkins #13...
What a nice group of guys.....

Today there were 61 cars.......less then yesterday....they were hoping and looking for more cars today...... Randle Sweeney was expected but did not make it.......... Doug Atkins #7 showed up today....the #16 of Jusin Carlson who was from New York had pulled out....

I went over by Team #22 and they were not real happy with their GRT..they changed a bunch of stuff on it but..........

I ran into Melissa Partin and asked her if I could get a copy of the results from last night and she sent me to the tower..... thankyou guy for helping me out..much appreciated...

They had two motorcycles there...one for the winner of tonights race and one for a fan..... there were several ways to get a chance at the motorcycle..your entry ticket....and 50/50 ticket...........the winner of the 50/50 got a choice of taking the money $900 or going into the drawing for the cycle...... they then called out twelve numbers from the 50/50 drawing........the top twelve drivers in the feature all drawed a number of a fan.........whatever fan was matched with the winner of the feature would win the cycle....
***my son inlaw was running back n forth to the pit area so he split his tickets and had his ten and nine year old sons watch the tickets........the guy next to me had bought tickets right after Mike....he was three off....he told the boys to go down and ck the numbers.....Dylan asked two people down there for help....***grandma should have went..or better yet...their dad...... **** yep..Mike had a winning number....but by the time he found out they had recalled another number....... also Kevin Short's named was called by one of the drivers....
*** I need to add...that when Melissa Partin found out about the boys and their mishap she gave both boys a hat and some candy***

on lap 40 Joey Kramer has made his way up to second behind Hess.. Arpin is now third with Landers 4th and Hawkins who by the way is 18 years old has now taken 5th..
These guys kept switching their spots all the way from lap 40 to the end of the race...
It was very exciting and you never knew who was going to earn that front spot...
It ended with a well fought battle for first with Dave Hess,jr winning, Steve Arpin getting back to second, Hawkins taking third and Joey Kramer taking fourth...Landers settled for fifth..
It was a really good race from start to finish...
Somewhere in the mix the #7r of Robinson had pulled off the track.. I know he was concerned with having enough gas to finish...so I don't know for sure if that was what happened...
In the introductions of the drivers they asked Dave Hess if he won the cycle if he would have room for it....he said he sure would and he planned on taking it home....
WELL HE DID............. and he earned it....
It was not an easy task by any means...

Well... I enjoyed my stay In Peebles, Ohio... we stayed at the campsite MINERAL SPRINGS..........I would recommend it to anyone.............the people in Peebles are very friendly.....
The Brushcreek Motorspeedway.......... I hope to be able to get the opportunity to go there again some time..... The owners Tom and Melissa Partin are doing a great job with their track.... the track was dusty..very dusty...but....we had been there from wednesday to sunday and we got a few sprinkles of rainon wednesday night...I was told they have had very little rain.....ILLINOIS HAS SOME THEY CAN SHARE.............. when they would water it would dry up immediately....the temps were in the 90's there.........

I was there on Saturday night to see Chad Kinder race and was amazed how they had changed the layout of the track from the previous time of being there. I must admit that I left before the Heritage 101 was ran. When 22s didn't come out for the B main and knowing I have a two hour drive home and at 11 pm they still have to run Chevettes and Legends feature before the Heritage. I had to get up to teach my Sunday school class at church at 9:30, so I left.

Was not impressed by the flow of racing. To start with, they begin qualifications at 8:00 pm and there was 61 modifieds, then every time they had a caution, they stopped the entire field to line the field back up, took 3 to 4 laps before the green appeared again....oh well. They had transponders, why did it take so long to get the line straight.....

I did meet Becky Robinson and two young ladies with her in the stand after Kent won his heat. Friendly people....

I want to thank you CJ for this website and how it lets me keep up with Chad and others I have watched race. Pictures and result from Illinois & Indiana

I have come to appreciate the Modified class and the competitiveness of the racers. Every track that I have been to has this division and it usually has the most cars and best races. I been to L'burg Speedway and Moler Raceway to the "Big Dawg" the last couple of years and see some of the best racing from this class. Meeting a driver like Chad, (from the town my mom, aunts, uncle, cousins all went to High school) give you someone to root for and then people like the Robinson's who are racing too, that are friendly and down to earth towards the fans.

On our way to Peebles, Ohio

My husband, mother inlaw and I headed for Ohio on wednesday , July 30th..we thought we would leave a day early so we could get a day in camping and rest before the busy race weekend....
It is a good thing we did........we had all kinds of trouble....we left in a downpour and it rained on us til we got out of Indianapolis...... then ...about nine miles on this side of Peebles, Ohio we started having transmission problems.....mind you..we just got our truck out of the shop.............we were in the foothills of the Appaliacian mts........ when we made the turn down "Steam Furnace Road" we knew we were in trouble... the truck was really pulling hard to get over the steep hills................about two miles outside of our campsite "Mineral Springs Campgrounds"...........we came to a stop.... we had no transmission fluid in the transmission at all.......
I have to tell you........I have never seen so many friendly people as I met in Ohio..... a young couple stopped and asked if we needed some help.... Howie sent him with some money to get us some fluid........... in the meantime several cars stopped to ask us if we needed help..... most were from the campground we were heading to..... one couple gave us their phone number just in case the young couple did not come back............ they had been gone for a while and i was thinking they weren't........but here they came..... we put the fluid in our truck and off we went...........truck was running slowwwwwwwww..... at the entrance of our campground it looked like Mt Everest.........we stopped midway up the hill......the fluid had all ran out of our truck...........they had to get a tractor to pull us up the hill which was about 100 feet......and chged us $60 unsure.gif ......we put some more fluid in our truck and we made it to our campsite...... we did not know what we were going to do.... the owner of the campground told us that he would take Howie to a dodge dealer in the morning.... I am thinking $$$$$$$$$$...........well low and behold our little couple who had helped us earlier had came back to check on us and followed our trail of transmission fluid........ he looked at our truck and took the part off of our transmission that had just been put on and said that it was missing the o ring.......and our fluid just ran out....... .... he came back the following morning and fixed our truck for nothing..............of course my husband gave him money that he did refuse but was made to take...... I loved this couple.."James and Christy...
I have to share a story about them.... James is not a lumberjack like Randle Sweeney but he is a timber man.... he had worked in timber since a kid with his dad and uncle.... his uncle was killed by a fallen tree at age 59.........
Well Christy told me that one day when James was out cutting timber he started not feeling well and told his dad he thought he was going to have to go home..he was feeling real out of it... he went back over by where he had been cutting wood and saw a copper head.........and it was ready to strike.....James then realized that he had been bitten earlier by the snake...he seen the two holes in his arm....
against everyones urging James would not go to the doctor.... his mom and wife pleaded and pleaded..........he said he told them " my grandpa said a healthy man won't die from a snake bit and i am a healthy man'..........
James would not go to the doctor........Christy said his arm got as green as the Hulk's........and she said he started talking out of his head for about three or four days......She said ..."have ya ever heard that saying "dummer the a box a rocks".......... well....that was James.................
I told James that the next time he gets bit by a snake he will probably kill the snake................. and I added that if he had been my kid he WOULD HAVE BEEN to the hospital..... he said mom tried and couldn't get me to go.... I said...well I would have gave you some sleeping pills and you would have went....we laughed..
These kids were great.... so glad I got to meet them....

Another couple who had stopped to help us and gave us their number just in case came to find us as well........Gary Young and his wife Barbara are from Dayton, Ohio..he is retired from the Air Force...before that he was in the law enforcement as a Crimnal Investigator..... we had a nice visit..... they came in and looked at our camper ..they are looking for a new camper soon............. I knew I liked Gary right off the bat.............He is a Jeff Gordon fan smile.gif ...

Well.......finally we got to settle in and relax.......thank goodness we decided to take off a day early !!!!
On thursday we took off and did some genealogy work at the Adams Co Library in Peebles, Oh......then went to Brushcreek Motor Speedway..........
It is located in a really pretty setting in the foothills of the Appalacian Mts.... the track was an odd shape....almost like a D shape... kinda reminded me of the Kokomo track..... facilities were nice.....
On friday I went early so I could get some interviews and ran into Becky Robinson...... biggrin.gif it is dangerous when you get the two of us together !!! I talked to her for a while and told her and JB , and Kent about our wonderful trip so far...
I headed for the pit area........there were I believe 67 modifieds there along with these cute little "Legend cars".... The owners "Tom and Melissa Partin's eleven year old son races in this division and does a really good job ...he won his first heat last week.....
The lady at the pitgate Teresa was very helpful...she gave me a list of the hometown boys so I could look for them to interview..I got Weasel Rhoades #68, Brian Whteman #52, Dan Reno #22 and Rob Leemaster #00.... when I went by the #222 of Brad White he was not in his pit area... I also missed Mike Gross, Dave Jamison and Doug Atkins....
I got to meet Melissa Partin, owner of the track....very nice lady... She told me that they always get a very good car count but are lacking in fan count.... and she said that her husband worries so much about the track and works really hard to try to get in racing form.... she said she hated it that it was so dusty....
I would have liked to have met her husband but.........he was a very busy man...Melissa was busy all the time too.... she sold 50/50 tickets and watched the pitgate as well......
I got 15 interviews that i will get on as soon as i can and add pictures as soon as I can....
I did have a good time this weekend and enjoyed my time at Brushcreek Motor Speedway...............everyone I met was very nice.......
We were going to go to Preble Co and stay another night or two but decided to head home and not press our luck...........we need to get this D........ truck fixed !!! mad.gif
