CLAY COUNTY SPEEDWAY
MAY 4, 2008
Tyler Blankenship is 24 years old and lives in St. Elmo, Illinois... He is single..
He is the son of the late Marion Blankenship..modified #3b who we lost last May..
Tyler runs the #3b (his dad's number) .. His car is a monte carlo and his engine is a 377 Harre Racing Engine.....
When the brothers Kristopher and Tyler were talking about their dad they said that he had been #26, #27, then skipped numbers 28 and 29 and then went to a number 30......then they said he went with the number #3 when he ran out of paint..... lol...
Tyler claims no track as his hometrack... He says he plans on hopping around from one track to another this year...
His favorite track to run however is Clay County Speedway... *** Hope that means we will see a lot more of you this season Tyler***
Tyler told me that he started racing at the age of 16 in what the called "Team Cars".....with his brother Kristopher..............
Let me tell you........those were fun to watch.... I had never heard of them before and had to ask a lot of questions about them when I was at Fayette Co, in Brownstown, Illinois.... ..
What I learned was that one driver would do the steering and the other driver was using the clutch and brake............ **can you even imagine how hard that would have been** they were fun to watch...
Without asking you knew his inspiration to start racing came from being the son of Marion Blankenship.............
Tyler has been racing for four years.....
The driver he most admired was his dad Marion Blankenship
His toughest competitor he said is himself...
To be a good driver he feels you need to have patience ........and his brother Kris threw in "SLOWER IS FASTER".....
His goal in racing is just to have fun and to not go broke doing it...
Any changes for racing that he feels needs to be done...He said the money issues and he would like to see the Fayette Co track reopen..
I asked him if he liked the high groove or the low groove...... He laughed and told me he did not care ..he would race wherever it was faster..... but... he does like racing on a dry slick track..
Tyler, I am so glad I finally got to meet you..... You and your brother Kris were a lot of fun to talk with..Hope to catch you racing again this year...
