CLAY COUNTY SPEEDWAY
MAY 4, 2008
Jay Crichton is 40 years old and lives in Lakevilla, Illinois with his wife Tina..
He runs the #4c crate late model with an American Made Chassi....
His hometrack is in Oshkosh, Wisconsin and in Seymour, Wisconsin.... His favorite track to run is Mamitowac, Wisconsin...
Jay told me that he started racing at age 15 in a hobby stock..then went into a super stock to a limited sportsman, then to IMCA and now in UMP....
He started running the crate late model last year..
He told me the reason he got inspired to start racing is that he lived next door to a race car driver "Whitie Harris... He said that he was a member of his crew....Said that Whitie had won 21 track championships in his 30 years of racing... He is now retired....
The driver that Jay most admires is Pete Parker out of Wisconsin and also his toughest competitor...
To be a good driver Jay said you need a lot of patience...
His goal in racing is to bring his car home in one piece every week...
I asked Jay if there was anything in racing he feels needs to be changed.... He told me the cost of motors and the tire rules.... said that Fastrak was doing that now....
He said that they need to put a limit of the shocks also...
A racing highlight for him was winning 7 features in the first 15 nights out in his crate the first year he raced it....
When asked if he liked the high or low groove he responded with ...wherever it is working..high or low doesn't matter............He also does not care if he is on a dry slick track or a tacky track...but...he does like a smooth track..not rough...
His crew consists of Scott, James, Chris, and Tommy,jr...
He wanted to give a special thanks to all the guys that help him with the car.. that keeps it running....and his sponsors....
Was really nice meeting you Jay... you sure came a long way to race at Clay Co...I know what you mean about the rain..
Jay is running for points and has had a lot of trouble finding tracks that are not rained out... We sure understand that... as I am typing it is pouring here.... goodluck with your points... one thing about it is all tracks are having trouble with rain so drivers from all over are suffering same..
