CLAY COUNTY SPEEDWAY
APRIL 26, 2008
Wes Smith is 40 years old and lives in Mt. Carmel, Illinois with his wife Becky.... They have six daughters..Jessica....Jennifer...Jamie...Joy....Jada....and Jayla.......
I want to make a special mention of Jennifer.... She is serving our country in the US Army.... thankyou Jennifer....
Wes runs the #3 street stock which is a camero... His engine is a Chevy 406..
I asked him if he had a reason for the #3...........him and his wife laughed and said ..well yeah... when he ran the modified his number was a #33......on this car he ran out of room so went with a #3..
He considers Clay County Speedway his hometrack and also his favorite to run..
He started racing at the age of 27 years old in a bomber... then raced a modified for 4 or 5 years and now back to a street stock..
I asked him what had inspired him to start racing and he told me that he lived only nine miles from the Red Hill track and use to go there ... He said it was something he wanted to try so he did..
The driver that he most admired was DALE EARNHARDT....
The driver that he felt was his toughest competition was Vince Drew...
When I asked him what he thought it took to be a good driver..... he said.."wow".... then said good equipment and money...
I asked Wes if he had a goal and he answered with "not to blow up"....
A highlight for him was winning a feature at Clay County Speedway..
He likes to race the high groove on a dry slick track..
Wes is his own Crew Chief
HIs Crew Members include his wife Becky and Phil Mitchell
He wanted to give a big thanks to his family, his friends and a special thanks to Grandma Mae..
Wes was really nice to meet you and your wife... goodluck with the season...
