Mike Hammerlee is 59 years old and lives in St. Charles, Missouri with his wife Linda.. They have a daughter Marcie and a grandaughter Cassidy...
Mike has several different chassi's....... He has a GRT, a CJ Rayburn and two homemade cars...the car he was running this weekend was one he built.......it is 11 years old....
HIs engine is a RCE..
He considers Belleville as is hometrack and also his favorite to run..... He said he likes to run on short tracks..
He said that when he first started racing he went with a #6 but where he raced there was another with the same number so he went with #16...
He started racing at age 21 years old in Allied Sportsmen ........and from there has had a pretty active racing career going from sportsmen which he raced for 3 years then into a late model for ten years , then to big block for ten years then back to the Late Model...
I asked him what had inspired him to start racing......He told me that he had started out by helping a guy for one year and then decided to do it himself.....
Mike says to be a good driver you need to have plenty of experience....and he stressed ' A LOT OF IT"...
HIs goal in racing is just to enjoy it........and would like to make the features..
His toughest competitor has been Ed Dixon.... He said Ed has like 500 feature wins...he has 300....said if it had not been for racing Ed he would have had more wins ....
Racing highlight for Mike was winning the Peverly National show for $5000 and racing a show in Michigan on an indoor track that was concrete...
He likes running the low groove on a dry slick track...
He is his own Crew Chief... Team Members are Mike and Leonard
He wanted to give a special thanks to his wife for letting him race and to King Edward Chicken...
Mike..was very nice to meet you....I have seen you race several times at Mt. Vernon....was nice to be able to put a face with the car...
