Steve Picou is 27 years old and looks 18...
Steve runs the #0 modified with a Skyrocket chassi and a SCP Racing Engine...
Steve said that he has no real reason for his number... but said that he use to be the #00...he dropped one of the 0's to see if his luck would change....
He clamis I-44 in Lebanon, Missouri as his hometrack and his favorite track to run is Moberly Raceway in Columbia, Missouri....
Steve started his racing career at age 11 in a go cart.... He then went into a B Mod at age 17 and then into the modified his senior year at age 18....
He told me that he and his dad had been going to races since he was a kid... HIs dad, Steve use to race dragsters...
The driver he most admires is Billy Moyer...
When asked who his toughest competitor was he just shook his head and said...wow... there are a lot of tough drivers in the modified division... he believes it is the toughest division out there.... he said he would say Jeff Leka and Chad Kinder are two of the toughest and added that anyone can be tough on any given night....
I asked if he had a goal and he said it was just to be competitive every time out on the track...
He believes to be a good driver you have to be very dedicated.... it takes a lot of hard work.... you also need good help and keep the maintance up on the car....
I asked him if there was anything in racing he feels needs changed...... he told me for sure the cost.....and the ump tire rule.......... needs to go to hard tires.....
A racing highlight that stands out for him was taking 2nd at the Fire Cracher 40 at the 24 Raceway... said there were several usmts drivers there....
Steve likes to run the low groove on a dry slick track....
His Crew Chief is his father , Steve and his team consists of only himself and his dad....
He said he wanted to give his dad a special thanks for all his help and to SCP Racing Engines which they own as well as SCP Performance Parts... you need a part....they have it....
Steve...thanks so much for the interview.... i have wanted to meet you for a while... when I first moved down to central Illinois I watched you race at Mt. Vernon Raceway.... hope to catch you again..
