BIG DAWG
MOLER RACEWAY PARK
SEPT 2, 2007
Dan Hurt is 34 years old and lives in Mt. Orab, Ohio with his wife Wauneda and their kids Blake and A.J.
Dan runs the #96 late model with a Warrior Chassi and a 406 eingine right now... his 421 engine is broke he said...
He does have a reason for his number.... He said that his dad Arvol started out in the racing scene in 1951... He helped out on a racing team with the #96..... The guy that he was helping got killed ...Arvol started racing then and used the same number in memory of his friend.....
Dan lost his dad in 2003 and now he uses the #96 in memory of his father......
Dan claims Moler Raceway Park as his hometrack and also his favorite track to run....
He started his racing career at age 15 and a half in the bomber division......then went into limited late models and in 1995 went into the late model...
Dan is very proud of his son Blake who is 6 years old.. Blake is racing in go carts and has already won 12 features and is the track champ at Brush Creek........... hmmmmm... I see a future late model driver here...
He was inspired to start racing by his father Arvol...
The driver that he most admires is Barry Doss and as I was interviewing him he was wearing a Barry Doss tee shirt...
He feels that Johnny Whitney, jr has been his toughest competitor...
Dan says he feels to be a good driver you need to be smooth... patient...and clean....
HIs goal in racing .... and he got very emotional at this time..... He said that he wants his boys to look up to him the way he looked up to his dad..... *** after meeting you Dan.... I am positive they will... the way you talked about your dad... I am sure you are a chip off of your dad....***
When asked if there was anything in racing he would like to see changed.... he told me he would like to see crate late models in their area and spec engines.....
A racing highlight for Dan was being the Ohio Track Champ in Brown Co., Ohio
He likes to race on a tacky track but runs better on a dry slick track.... He likes running the high groove...
His Crew Chief is Bill Thompson
Crew members are Bill...Dan...JOsh...Aaron...Wauneda his wife...Sheila and Joe his brother...
He wants to give a big thanks to his mom Carol and to Barry....
It was very nice to meet you Dan and your wife.... you and your wife have a very uplifting spirit... hope you always keep that.... goodluck with your racing and am looking forward to seeing Blake's name in the racing field some day....
Thanks for the interview..
