Steve Maisel is 44 years old and lives in House Springs, Missouri .....
He runs the #41m crate late model with a rocket chassi and a 604 engine....
He claims Tri City Speedway, Pontoon Beach as his hometrack but his favorite to run is at Eden, Oklahoma
I asked Steve what had inspired him to start racing and he told me that he just loved to race and would race anything he could.... He said he was the first generation to race..... He started racing go carts at the age of four... he said he raced motorcycles... he drap raced in 1988 and then went to dirt track racing.... said he has raced in every division there is in dirt..... I asked him what his favorite was and although he seems not to care as long as he is racing said that he did favor the late model.....
The driver that Steve most admires is Scott Bloomquist...
When I asked him who his toughest competitor was he said that they were all tough....
To be a good driver Steve feels you need patience and COMMON SENSE..........
His goal in racing is "don't get hurt....:"
When asked if anything in racing needed to be changed.......he like so many says the payouts need to be better....
I aksed him if he had a highlight that stood out for him and he told me winning the UMP Championship in Street Stock............this is all he told me and after I had finished interviewing him and started walking away Darrell Beckham called me back and said that Steve had more highlights then that.... Steve said...."Well ..... I have 200 career feature wins..... 7 track championships.... a Illinois State Championship and two ump National Championships............".......thanks Darrell for jarring his memory a little....
I asked him if he liked the high groove or the low groove and he told me it didn't matter to him...whatever worked was where he would be racing.... He does however like to run on a dry slick track...
Steve is his own Crew Chief...
He said that he wanted to give his car owners a big thankyou.... he sure does appreciate them...
