CLAY COUNTY SPEEDWAY
MAY 12, 2007
Bobby Wilkins is 34 years old and lives in Logan, Illinois with his wife Carla and his daughter Megan who will be four years old on the 20th of May....
Bobby runs the #78 street stock which is a 1986 Monte Carlo and has a small engine..."355"...
**** Bobby ran the #23 red street stock in Mt. Vernon and his brother Johnny ran the purple #78 street stock until he suffered from a shoulder injury..... Bobby said the car is four years old....
Bobby calls Mt Vernon his hometrack ..........but........his favorite to run is Clay County Speedway..
I asked Bobby if there was a reason behind the #78 and he told me that had been his dad Patrick's number when he raced and his grandfather Edwin Duttin's............Bobby said that he had picked the number #23 because he was a big Michael Jordan fan......(****that makes two of us!!!)...
Bobby started racing go carts at an early age but not competitive.then raced motor cross and then as a Senior in highschool started drag racing...... he started racing in the bomber division at age 27....
I asked him what had inspired him to start racing and he told me his younger brother "Johnny"... He said that him and Johnny had been around racing as long as he could remember because of his dad...
Driver he most admires........JEFF GORDON.... (**** hmmm... I like this guy....another of my favorite)
He told me to be a good driver he felt you had to have finesse, and patience...
When I asked him what his goal in racing was he told me his goal in life was to be the best dad he could be to his daughter Megan....
He said he considers his brother Johnny his toughest competitor..
I aksed him if there was anything in racing that needed to be changed..........he told me that UMP needed to be consistent........that they need to make the rules for the street stock division the same at all the tracks..... says you get your car all dialed in and then go to another track and have to change it for their ruless..... he said he will not do that...
The highlight that stands out for him is winning track champion three years in a roll at Mt Vernon...and he said he was pretty proud of the time that he got into a late model for the first time and won his heat and the dash.....
Bobby likes to race on the low groove and on a dry slick track...
His team consists of himself and his brother Johnny..
When I asked him if there was anyone he would like to thank he told me that he wanted to give a big thanks to his brother Johnny and to his dad Patrick and mom Patricia...
Bobby and Johnny.... it was great to get to meet the two of you..... seen the two of you race many times at Mt. Vernon.... really nice to see you at Clay County......
