KANKAKEE MOTOR SPEEDWAY
AUGUST 10, 2007
DAN HAMSTRA 50

Axle Wicker is 15 years old and lives in Bradley, Illinois with his parents Billy and Lorie Wicker and his sister Justine...

Axle runs the #118 hornet which is a 1979 Ford Pinto ....

I asked Axle how he came up with the number 118 for his car.... He told me that he had started racing go carts and that they had a racing party.... He put a suggestion box out on the table and had people write down the number they thought he should use......... he said #11 and #8 were the ones that kept coming up so he just combined them for #118...

Axle started his racing career at age 9 in go carts.... He went into a hornet last year at age 14 but said he had been practicing for a couple of years at Crown Point....

Axle told me his hometrack is Kankakee Motor Speedway but his favorite to run was Crown Point until it closed... now his favorite is Kankakee...

I asked him what had inspired him to start racing and he told me that he has been around it all his life... His dad races street stock, his mom had raced the hornet... his granddad raced as well as his Uncle...

The driver that he most admires is "Mr Smooth" ....Billy Moyer.....

He said his toughest competitor has been #18 of Ryan Johnson..

Axle said that he feels it takes patience to be a good driver...

HIs goal in racing would be to one day be able to race in the late model division....

I asked him if there was anything in racing he feels needed changing.... He told me he would like to see qualifying in all divisions...

A highlight for him in his short career was winning back to back championships in go carts.....
I have a feeling we will be seeing some more highlights from him....

Axle likes to race the high groove on a dry slick track...

His Crew Chief is his mom and his Crew members are his dad Billy and his Uncle Damon..

Axle wanted to give a big thankyou out to his mom and dad for all their support....

Thankyou for giving me the time for the interview Axle.... i know you were busy when I came to talk to you but you stopped and talked with me....."thankyou"..... was very nice to meet you... goodluck with your carrer...
