Vermillion Co was having a special event for a Danville State Trooper Sue Voges who has been battling breast cancer for over 12 years... A very courageous woman.... Kenny Wallace and Kenny Schrader was asked to come to the track and help with the special event.... both accepted graciously....
There were pink shirts everywhere in support of breast cancer awareness.... Sue was honored with a plaque from the mayor of Danville.............. she also got to get the experience of racing a hornet #980 against I think the sheriff of Danville "Chris"........Chris was in the #5 hornet of Jim Cross,Sr.... they went around the track about 10 times with Sue being in victory lane and being awarded a trophy....
NICE JOB SUE !!!! And we all will keep you in our prayers as you struggle with this disease...
Shortly after we arrived at Vermillion our friends Jerry and Pam Huddleston joined us...they are the grandparents of Matt Huddleston #18m modified..........then "lovethe dirt" Lisa Wilson arrived.... Lisa was a big help tonight ........she helped me with keeping the stats....
Dennis Waggle came over to visit us from the pits and brought Lisa her shirt and sweatshirt that she wanted...Chad autographed her tee for her....
They qualified the late models but did not qualify the modifieds.... modifieds were going on passing pts...top 14 in pts would be in feature..
They started with the modified heat races ... a total of six...winners were 1..Kenny Carmichael 2..Chad Evans...3..Gabe Menser 4..Matt Gouldan 5..Tommy Burnside 6..Jeff Leka .
Was a treat to see the #9 of Kenny Schrader and the #36 of Kenny Wallace out there.... was especially exciting for me to watch Kent Robinson racing along side of Kenny Wallace and doing a great job and keeping his position...!!!!! Another driver that stood out for me was Craig Conyer who started on last row of his heat and made it up to 4th... he has looked good all weekend and will be my driver of the week...
Gabe Menser was also looking really good in his heat.. he held off Kenny Schrader for the win with Schrader coming up from the tail of the pack for second.....Tommy Burnside was another one who stood out for me.. did a good job of keeping Pierce behind him...Pierce came up from the tail and took 2nd.... who says hes retired?????? With the sounds from the bleachers he still draws a huge crowd....Leka got out in front of his heat and never looked back...Cary came up from 8th to take 2nd..
The ones to move up from the consi's were consi #1 McKay Wenger and Ryan Thomas...consi #2 was Matt Huddleston and Shuman....consi #3 Chuck Haga and Kenny Wallace..
In the feature Bob pierce started on front row inside because of his passing pts... he never looked back..led every lap.... very little passing.. Matt Gouldan took 2nd, Tommy Burnside 3rd Evans 4th, Kiger 5th , Schrader 6th, Leka 7th
In the late model division it was exciting for me to see the "real deal" Don Oneal...one of my favorite...Dennis Erb was there , Greg Johnson, Ryan Dauber, Wes Stedinger, Randy Korte, Kevin Cole, Ratliff, Bull, Heddrick, Rolfe.......
Chad Kinder was there with his late model...........sorry Chad but that car sucks!!!!!! You could see you was giving it everything you could and it would just not do anything........whatever you got out of that car WAS ALL YOU..... wish you had taken the modified...........** you know...when I interview guys there are a lot of CJ Rayburn's, Masterbilt, Rocket.......................
There were 4heats with them taking top four....winners were 1..Scott James 2..Don Oneal 3..Kevin Cole taking win at line over Scott 4..Randy Korte
took top 2 from consi's.......consi 1 Terry Babb and Jordan Bland transferred...consi 2 Dennis Erb and Ritchie Heddirck transferred..
In the feature Kevin Cole and Scott James sit on the front row with Oneal and Korte on 2nd row...Marlar and Fegers on 3rd row.....
on the first lap in turn one the cars bunched up causing a crash and Ratliff got the worse end of it but stayed in race.... Mataragus had pulled out before start but pulled back on before race started back up from caution.. Kevin Cole got out to an early lead with Don Oneal in second....Cole had a good lead on Don..James is in 3rd..
The leaders were coming up on lapped traffic when the #93x of Rusty Griffaw got side ways and collected the two front runners Cole and Oneal....everyone else gets by.......they called an ambulance out to the track for an injured track worker.... never really heard any more about him..hope he is ok...
On restart Cole and Oneal got their spots back ..reason being that they were involved in pile up trying to avoid a wreck... 93x pulled off before restart...
the #99 of Heckenast pulls off.......
There was no passing............Cole won with Oneal , James, Marlar, Korte, Fegers,
I want to give a big thanks to Lisa who helped me a lot with the results... really helped....
I want to say
I got a few pictures and i will be adding them soon
