CLAY COUNTY SPEEDWAY
AUGUST 26, 2006

Steve Adams is 46 years old and lives in CooksMilles, Illinois

He runs the #500 with a 500 Motor Sports Chassi and a 393 Chevy Engine... He also races a sportsman and a street stock...

He considers Charleston as his hometrack but his favorite track to run is the DuQuion Mile..

Steve started his racing career at age 24 in the enduro cars.. He told me he went into a modified in 1991..

I asked Steve what had inspired him to start racing..... smile.gif He told me that he always raced on the streets... ohmy.gif after a few run ins with the law enforcement he said he decided to take his desire for speed to a track..... was a whole lot safer .. smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif

When I asked Steve if there was anyone he looked up to in racing he told me that there had been a lot of them.... some have been Jack Hewitt, Kenny Schrader and RED FARMER.... He said that he hopes he can be around as long as Red.... said last year he knew he was still racing and that he is in his 70's..

I asked him what he thought it took to be a good driver.... He told me it took good equipment and experience...and......he added "you have to have talent....

I asked Steve what his goal was and he told me...."well...I never met it."..... He said he had wanted to make it into the Nextel Circuit but never made it and now it is not realistic at his age to go for it...but...said a realistic goal is winning a race at the DuQuion Mile or the Springfield Mile.... He said that he loved racing on the mile track.... I told him that I heard it was really a dangerous track and very dangerous to run a modified on that size track with the speeds that you go.... He told me that yes it could be very dangerous ...He said to race on the mile you need to respect the track and you need to respect each other..

When I asked him who his toughest competitor had been he told me there were a bunch of them and named off Chad Kinder...Denny Schwartz...and Jeff Leka

I asked Steve if he thought there was anything in racing that needed to be changed.... He told me the economy has to change before there is any great improvement in racing...said it is killing the racing community....

The Highlight in Steve's career that stands out for him was winning the $1000 purse at the Mike Heddins Memoriial in Charleston in the street stock division.. He said he had to earn that win....

His Crew consists of David Sheridan, Dan Sheridan,Bob Long, Bob Ashley and Jason Bailey..

Steve....it was a real pleasure to finally meet you.... I have seen you race many times over the last few years.... I know that I have some pictures of you in my old photo's that are recorded on here... I will have to copy them to this section...

Thankyou so much for giving me the interview.... hope to run into you again...
