4TH ANNUAL TRI-TRACK CHALLENGE (1st won by Joe Morris...2nd won by Randy Korte and 3rd by Shannon Babb)
June 4th, 2006

Left for Danville around three...had painted all day saturday so decided not to go to the pit area...
earlier in the day one of my members "lovethe dirt" pm'ed me and told me that there was a real nice article in the Danville paper about Bob Pierce and she would get me one and bring it to the track......True to her word she delivered me the paper..... THANKS SO MUCH !!!! I would have not even known about it if you had not told me.....
Howie and I sit at top in first section of bleachers close to turn 4....
I saw Chris Nunn in the announcers booth and motioned for him to look at me so I could get a picture...He waved and I quickly snapped the pic..... He came over to say hello and introduced me to his mom "maNunn"..Was really nice meeting her...
I sit next to the cutest little girl "Madison"... we had quite a conversation going throughout the race.....She wanted to know how I knew all the drivers names... smile.gif .... we had a contest of who would pick the winner of each event.....she beat me each time I believe... Madison was 7 and a half I believe...

AND A BIG CONGRATULATIONS GOES OUT TO AARON RICKETTS AND HIS GIRLFRIEND "KATIE" WHO AARON JUST ASKED TO MARRY HIM TONIGHT AT THE RACES

There were 29 late model there....they qroup qualified....fastest qualifier over all was Randy Korte who picked up an extra #100 for accomplishing that.. ...In the heats they are taking top two out of each to draw pills to see where they will start the feature...

top qualifier in each group were: Ryan Dauber #64 13.657....Shannon Babb #18 13.495....Brian Birkhofer #15 13.698....Randy Korte #00 13.414...

Heat one you had Dauber and Erb front row, 2nd row was Schickel and Heckenast, 3rd row was Melvin and Feger ..last was Rolfe and Evans.. Dauber got out to early lead and stayed there throughout with Erb right on his tail.. Rodney Melvin moved up from fifth to take 3rd place with Feger, Schickel, Heckenast and Rolfe
Heat two you had Babb and Matthews on front row, 2nd row was Oneal and Harlan, 3rd row was Long and Hillard, last row was Terry Babb and Billy Moyer,jr....Babb got out to an early lead and led by a large margin..Erb came in second with Don Oneal crossing third, then Hillard, Harlan, Matthews, T. Babb, and then Billy Moyer,jr... only one incident in this heat when the #36 of Long got sideways and the #88 of Terry Babb went up over the burm to miss hitting him....
In heat three you had Birky and Mars on front line, 2nd was Lance and Kinder, 3rd row was Shirley and Hedrick and on tail was Petersack..Mars got out in front with Birky right behind..3rd was Lance, then Shirley , Hedricks, Kinder and Petersack
In heat four you had Korte and Billy Moyer front row, 2nd row was Wayne Chinn and Bradley, 3rd row was Darren Miller and Don Hammer and Kevien Weaver at tail...... Korte and Moyer put on quite a race with Korte taking the win...Miller crossed over third andthen Bradley, Weaver, Chinn, Hammer
In the conis there were 14 cars..Schickel and Matthews was on front row with Hedricks and Weaver on second row, Heckenast and Hammer on 3rd row...Kinder and Chinn on 4th row..
caution #1 came out when the #22 of Rolfe and the #21 of Moyer was involved in crash..the #45 was blamed for the accident and he was sent to the tail..by this time Hedricks had already got into the lead with Heckenast, Matthews, Schickel, Chinn, Kinder, Weaver, Rolfe, Babb, Moyer, Long, Evans, and Hammer..
On restart the #99 of Heckenast hit the wall in front of grandstand..he went off track and stopped..had to be taken to pit by wrecker..meanwhile Billy Moyer ,jr coming around turn four slowed up trying to avoid the cars in front of him causing him to spin out...
When they restarted the #B12 of Kevin Weaver drove right up over back of Chad Kinders car ending his night..Weaver stayed in but had to go to the tail where he stayed.. the #22 of Rolfe pulled off, another caution came out when Don Hammer got sideways in turn two......#59 of Evans pulls off....another caution for the #1 of Chinn when he shot over the burm...came back on the track but then pulled off...ended with Hedrick taking first, Matthews, Schickel, Babb, Hammer, Moyer,jr and Weaver..
The feature had 20 cars.
Moyer/Dauber
Oneal/Birky
BabbMars
Korte/Erb
Melvin/Hillard
Lance/Miller
Feger/Harlan
Shirley/Bradley
Hedrick/Matthews
Schickel/T.Babb
Right a green flag start going into turn two there was a huge crash involving Erb, Korte, Hammer, Shirley,Feger, Schickel, and Babb... Feger and Shirley pulled infield but came back out...the Babb car and the Lance car pulled off....
The #21 of Moyer was out in front but Shannon Babb coming from 5th reeled him in taking first and it remained that way to the checkered flag with Korte coming from 7th to take 3rd..Dauber took 4th and Rodney Melvin crossed over 5th, Oneal 6th, Mars 7th....

In the modified there were only two heats with 19 cars..
In heat one you had Burton and Raine on front row, 2nd row was Ryan Cary and Fuqua, 3rd row was MQueen and Henson and I think #57 and Hamstra and last row was Ricketts and the #03..
first caution came out for the i44 car of Cary who spun out... thought another caution would come out when the #23 car got into the back of the #R4 car but he kept control.... And WOW...that #3f of Rob Fuqua was flying.... him and Arby Burton was putting on their own little race with Rob getting past him..
another caution came out for the Lo of McQueen who spun out..by this time running order was Fuqua, Hamstra, Burton and Ricketts (who had came up from dead last).... It ended with Fuqua holding on for the lead with the #97 of Burton and the #23 of Hamstra battling for the 2nd spot with Burton winning by inches and Ricketts crossed over 4th..... this was a really good race!!!!!
In heat two you had Menser and Duncan on front row with McDaniel and Wilson on 2nd row, 3rd row was Roger Carey and Denny Schwartz, then 4th was Lakey and Kiger and #6 was on tail...
Menser controlled this heat getting out in front and not looking back...Denny Schwartz shot throught the rest of the pack but could not reel in Gabe... ended with Menser taking win, Schwartz, Carey, and Wilson..
In the feature
Fuqua/Schwartz
Menser/Hamstra
sorry ..that is all I got before they started...
Race was between Gabe Menser and Denny Schwartz early on...then Schwartz took over the lead and easily left the rest of the group... Dan Hamstra who had started in third row slipped through the field and settled on second place..... then the rest of the pack crossed over...Fuqua, Menser, Ricketts, Burton, Carey, Raines, Henson, Wilson, Duncan, McDaniel, Kiger, Ryan Carey, Lakey and #6...

Thanks so much for your recap and photos CJ. I was looking for Dauber's qualifying time and I'm glad someone there was paying attention. Can't wait to meet you someday.
