David Richardson Memorial $5000 Event
Vermilion Co/Danville, Illinois
May 28th, 2006
Kent Robinson just turned 19 years old and is a 2006 high school graduate
Kent lives in Bloomington, Indiana
He runs the #7r with a lightning chassi and a Bill Kerr Engine
I asked Kent if there was a reason behind his number... He told me that when he started racing four wheelers at age ten years old he did not have a number... He said all they had was some tape....so.... the easiest numbers to make were a 7 or a 1... they made the number seven out of two pieces of tape and put it on a paper plate and taped it to the 4-wheeler...
Kent started racing bombers at the age of 15 and went into a modified this year (2006)..
Kent calls Bloomington, In his home track and his favorite track to run is the track at Brownstown, Indiana
I asked Kent what had inspired him to start racing and he told me that he had been around racing as a kid... A real good friend of the family is Ray Humphrey...
I asked Kent what driver he admired the most and he told me "Chad Kinder"....
His mom had told me that before... He has not met Chad... I am going to have to change that....
Kent feels that having patience is the secret to being a good driver...
When asked what his goal in racing is he answered with..."getting to Nascar"... said he knows that most everyone who starts racing has that dream... he said he will just have to see how far he can get... Said he would love to be picked up by someone in Late Model so that he could make it his career..do it full time...
He names Jesse Cramer as his toughest competitor...
When I asked if there was anything in racing that he feels needs to be changed..he told me he feels they need transponders..
A racing highlight for him is winning a feature at Bloomington, Indiana this year...
Kent also won two AMA Championships in he 4 wheeler division...in the year 1999 and in 2000..
He likes to run the low groove on a dry slick track..
His crew chief is his dad John Robinson and his team members are Scott, Don , Bryce and his dad....
***I think I would add Kent's mom Becki.... I think she is a very big part of that team....
When I asked if he would like to thank anyone he answered with "my parents"....
.......
When I walked up to the 7r trailer I was pleasantly greeted by Kent's mother Becki.... it was sooo hot and she invited me into the trailer to stand in front of a fan... she offered me water and we talked until Kent arrived... I really had a great time talking with her and meeting her daughter and that cute little dog that kept wanting to follow me..."Hunter"....
The whole family is great... very friendly... it was a real pleasure to interview Kent...
Kent hold onto that charm... it will take you far......
His mom told me that Kent is a student pilot... Kent told me he loves to fly.. said he is just now starting to fly solo...
By talking with him you can tell he is a little dare devil....
They gave me a Kent Robinson tee shirt.... that was so sweet... I love it !!! and I will wear it...
I will take a picture of it and put it on the site soon....
I really hope to run into all of you again.... Kent ..thankyou for the interview..
Goodluck with your career...would not surprise me at all to see you in nascar ...
