What a great time I had..... Hubby and I got a room at Microtel Inn off exit #31.... if anyone goes to that area I recomment that motel....very nice and reasonable priced...there is also a very nice restaurant right across I-24 called Miss Scarletts...very good food.....very friendly people in Kentucky...
We got to the track around 4:00 .... It was HOT.... you should see my sunburn....OUCH!!
I ran into Ricky Waggoner and he told me a couple of guys to try to interview..."Jeff Parks #75 and the #23 of Jeff Elliott....each time I went by their haulers they looked to be busy so I did not bother them... hopefully next time I get to KLMS I can run into them........was real nice talking with Ricky ......he totally has that Kentucky accent and when telling me to go interview Elliott I thought he was saying i lee at.... I asked him to spell it...then laughed....
It was so hot friday that I only got three interviews... one with Kevin Cole, one with Mike Harrison and one with Brian Birkhofer........ tongue.gif and I am so mad at me..... YEP....did it again...just like what I did with Billy Moyer....... I was so excited about finally catching up with BIRKY I forgot to get his autograph!!!!!! I can't believe I did that again!!!!!! Birky I will hopefully catch him again...took me three times to finally get him this time!!!!! If you ever get the opportunity to meet up with him make sure you do....he is super.....
With all the rain that KLMS received on thursday night the track was in good shape....Sherri and her crew did a great job... I have been wanting to interview Sherri for a long time and we just keep missing each other..... this weekend I talked with her and we were going to get together and it started raining... wink.gif ...I think I am going to have to call her so I can keep her in one spot long enough.... biggrin.gif .. She is a very busy young lady ..
When they started qualifying they announced that DON ONEAL holds the track record set on Sept. 3, 1995 at 13.397...........
Earl Pearson, jr had fast time for friday with13.930....
They qualified all the late model...(55 of them).... they had six heats which the top three went to feature
...heat one...Pearson,jr/Eller/Eckrich.....heat two Neat/Frye/Korte....heat three Owens/Johnson/Hanson...heat fourSchlieper/Mars/Babb....heat five Shirley/D. Miller/Shepperd...heat six Terry English/Wallace/K.Cole
** in heat one John Gill #20 got rearended by Matt Miller #7 taking both cars out of the heat..
in heat #3 Birky went out with a flat right rear tire after being in lead...they did not allow him to come back..Greg Johnson then took over lead and stayed there until the last lap when Jimmy Owens passed him right at the finish line.....in heat five Bloomer was in lead for three laps and had to go out for a flat tire...he returned to track and went to tail...finished 5th..
That was all the racing that the late models did friday and unfortunately that will be it until May 29th...

Would have loved seeing the feature on saturday.....they worked the track while it was raining hoping that it would pass but it just kept on raining so Sherri had to call it.....

There were 43 modifieds...they took top five out of 4 heats to feature and two from two consi's.......(.they use the passing points at this race and I don't quite understand that yet) ...and they drawed pill 3 for invert...
heat one top five was: Donahoo..Shaw..Waggoner..Landers and Cole
heat two: Parks, Kinder, C. Miller, Sweeney, and#20
heat three..Dribble, Weber, Lane, #29, and Elliott
heat four..Schwartz, Mevert, #49, #16, and Spatola
consi 1...#28L Ladd and Ray Walsh
consi 2..Harrison and Kramer
In heat one .....this heat was stacked with Shaw Donahoo, Waggoner, Landers, Walsh, Kevin Cole, Mike Harrison and Joey Kramer........WOW...the passing points made this race very interesting with Cole, Harrison and Kramer all being at the tail... ...bad luck for Ray Walsh, Joey Kramer and Mike Harrison who were all moving forward before having to pull off track...
In heat two the #12 had to pull out of race...Sweeney went off and then returned...Parks started number two and took the lead early on....Kinder made his was up to second spot coming from 6th.. Clayton Miller came up from the 9th spot taking third
In heat four the #74 hit the wall really hard coming out of turn one.. Eddie Shamhart and the #26h of Houston tangled but both kept on going in lap 7.... before Shamhart made a complete lap him and the 1x crashed sending Eddie off the track...
In the consi Shamhart did not come out....

The feature was lined up with Jeff Parks and Donahoo on front row and second row was Chad Kinder and Clayton Miller, third row was Dribble and Denny Schwartz, fourth row was Mevert and #39, fifth row was Waggoner and Brian Shaw.. sixth was Scott Weber and #20 McClane....
There were so many cautions right at beginning of race.. I must have had Kinder marked on my paper wrong cause when they lined them up he was in fourth spot instead of third...each restart he would pass the #15 car and then be put back to fourth because of not completing a lap.... the #182 spun out and had to go off the track... the #24 of Mike Harrison spun out and got hit..he goes out....Ray Walsh pulled off...
Chad Kinder took the lead by lap #8 and never looked back..... I don't think he ever took his foot off the gas peddle...... Jeff Parks crossed over second..Ricky Waggoner came from ninth to take third..matt mevert started in 7th and took 4th with Denny Schwartz taking 5th after starting sixth..Brian Shaw moved up to sixth after starting tenth...

I was really looking forward to seeing the races on saturday...with all the great cars it was sure to be an exciting day...!!!
I went to the pit area early and got interviews with Jimmy Cummings, Jared Landers, Jeremy Payne, Jack Sullivan and Damon Eller..... I tried catching Terry Phillips but he was not at his hauler nor was Troy English..
I had a really nice talk with gentleman who checks your wrist bands when you go into the pit area "LOWELL O DANIEL.. Lowell told me that he had been with the track from its beginning. when Keith Greer started the track.... He said that Keith was a contractor and when he decided to start the track he traveled all around to the othr tracks to see how he wanted to construct his... Lowell told me that he had helped do a lot of the work at the track... He told me that he had rubbed out the wall that goes around the track.... Was really nice talking with you Lowell...enjoyed hearing the stories...
The rain did not start until right around four oclock... Sherri had them working the track and wanted to get it in but the rain was set in for the rest of the day and for sunday also.... She finally called the race rescheduling it...
Where we set in the bleachers there was a Big fan of Earl Pearson, jr's...a ten year old little boy from Marion , Illinois... He had bought a Earl Pearson hat so when I went to the pit area I asked him if he would like me to take his hat and get it autographed.......Earl Pearson,jr made him one little happy camper!!!!
I got to talk with Jimmy Owens and take a picture of his new car... always like to run into him... also took an updated picture of Terry English, always a gentleman... and one of Dennis Erb and his 2006 car..
Make sure you read my interviews as I get them on... it will take some time but will get them on as fast as I can..
I love the track at KLMS....
Sherri...looking forward to going back soon......
