Earl Pearson, Jr. is 34 yrs old.. He lives in Jacksonville, Florida..
Earl has a son Trey

Earl runs the #1 with a MasterSbilt chassi and a Larry Wallace engine..

Earl as most all the late model drivers claim no one track as their hometrack.. HIs favorite track is Hagerstown..

Earl told me that he started his racing career when he was eight years old in go-carts.. He raced modified for four years and then went into the Late Model in 1996..

He told me that his father Earl Pearson , Sr also raced..Earl said he had always been around racing and that is what inspired him to start racing.

The driver that he most admires is Bobby Labonte...

When asked what he thought it took to be a good driver he told me that you have to learn alot....... he said you need to take time and learn...have a good teacher... He said that he had two very good teachers..HIs father and Ronnie Stuckey............. and............you have to learn PATIENCE....

I asked Earl if he had a goal... he told me that he would love to get into Nascar.... and then laughed and added... "that is probably every racecar drivers goal.... He added though that if he never got any further then where he is right now that he is happy....

And one question you do not need to ask a Late Model Driver.............."Who has been your toughest competitor".... Earl says all of them....

When asked if there was anything about racing he would like to see changed... He grinned and said "The money"....

I asked Earl if there was something special in his career that stood out for him and he told me it was when he was racing in Atlanta, Georgia in 2002 and his whole family was able to be there.... He said the way he travels that is almost impossible to happen....said it really meant a lot to him....

Earl likes to run the Low Groove and doesn't care whether it is a dry slick track or tacky..

His crew chief is Jason Fitzgerald
His pit crew is Matt and Jackie

He wanted to send out a special thanks to his family and to Carlton and Kent Lamb, his car owners and to Lucas Oil.... They are a big help

Earl won the 2005 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series National Championship and was the 2004 Xtreme DirtCar Series Champion

ROSSBURG — For about 80 laps, it seemed like Saturday's World 100 was going to be worth the "weight" for Shannon Babb. After crossing the line first last season then coming up 11 pounds short in the post-race check, Babb had redemption in sight by leading the majority of dirt Late Model racing's biggest prize. But Earl Pearson Jr. forced Babb to scale back his celebration a second straight year.

Pearson, who started on the pole, overtook Jeep VanWormer with a slide on Lap 84 then held off Babb for his first World 100 win in three attempts. His previous best finish was eighth in 2004.

"This is unreal for us," said Pearson. "To come here and do this at Eldora Speedway, this is a dream come true. It hasn't sunk in yet. I might be sitting right here tomorrow."

Pearson celebrated his coveted globe trophy as an estimated 24,000 spectators cheered on. Babb, denied his first World 100 win in his seventh appearance, was followed by VanWormer, Josh Richards and Scott Bloomquist.

Among the notable drivers not making the World 100 were five-time champ Billy Moyer (cut tire in heat race), former champ Dan Schlieper (didn't qualify from B-Main) and 2005 Dirt Late Model Dream and World 100 pole-sitter Jackie Boggs (didn't qualify from B-Main).

Trials and tribulations

Vic Hill's 15.736 seconds topped Friday's qualifying runs, and Ronnie Dehaven's 17.11 earned him the final spot out of 196 cars. Hill, from Norristown, Tenn., earned an automatic spot in the World 100 feature in just his second appearance and with just 10 career laps at Eldora.

"I came back up here a little better prepared this time," said Hill, who drove up last year to watch the race.
