John runs the 79d modified with a Performance chassi and a Kerr Racing Engine
I asked John if there was a reason behind his car number... He told me that it had been the number that his grandfather used when he raced sprints in the 70/80's... His grandfathers name is Erwin Cooper.
He told me he was inspired to start racing because of his grandpa Cooper..
John started out racing in go carts at the age of 5 yrs..
He started running a modified nine years ago when he was 18 yrs old..
The driver he most admires is JIMMY OWENS...
To be a good driver he also feels it takes a lot of patience and he also says you need to try and stay positive.... don't let yourself get down... look for positive things to keep you up...
He told me his goal is to win a big money race...
John feels that some of his toughest competitors are Randy Petro, Ray Humphrey and Adam Sasser
I asked him if there was anything in racing that he would like to change he said that he would like to see the payouts for modifieds raised...He thinks that all the races that modifieds race in should be at least for $1000..
Some of his Racing Highlights that stand out for him is winning the BEAR WIECK MEMORIAL in 2002.........and he won the Bloomington Nationals 2 years in a row.
Unlike most John likes to race the middle groove instead of the high or low and he likes a dry slick track..
He claims Bloomington Speedway as his home track and is also his favorite track along with Brownstown speedway in Brownstown, In
His Crew Chief is Jeff Peterson and his team includes himself, Jeff Peterson and Wally Smith
John wanted to send out a special thanks to his grandma and grandpa Cooper, his wife Heather and Gerald Howe..
Thanks for taking time out to give me the interview... I very much appreciated it.. Was a real pleasure to get to meet you.... I have seen you race several times..
