I usually always have someone picked out to interview when I go to a track and Joey was it...... I had a hard time finding him in the pit and once I did he was busy working on his car so I opted to come back later..... so glad I caught up with him...
Joey Kramer is 29 years old and lives in Hanover, Indiana... He runs the #77 with a lightning chassis and a Kramer motor...
Joey told me that he started racing when he was 16 years old in a street stock..He advanced to a modified in 2000.... he also has run a late model and he said he had no fun so is back in a modified.....
He told me that his father is the reason he got interested in racing ... said his father Dennis Kramer raced Late Model...
He told me that his dad is very supportive of him and is his inspiration...
When I asked him what he thought it took to be a good driver he told me PATIENCE..
He told me that his long term goal was just to keep improving and to have fun doing it...
He told me that he feels that his toughest competitor is the "race track"..
When asked what he thought needed to be changed with racing.... he told me the COST ............. and that the Purse needed to be increased....
He told me that in 2003 he was the National Late Model Rookie of the Year
and he added that he has been the only one to make the North/South 100,,,the World 100 and the DTWC (dirt track world championsip) in his rookie year..
and that prompted me to ask........."and you don't like the late model class after accomplishing all that ?" and he told me "nope".... it was no fun in that class...
That was the second driver to tell me that...first was Ted Nobbe...
His crew Chief is Doug Pyles and told me that Dennis helps in the pits...
Joey... so glad I got to interview you.... was getting close to the time you had to go out on the track but you still took time with me.... thanks so much .....
