It was opening night for Clay County Speedway !!!!! FINALLY NO RAIN !!!!!

From the bleachers the track looked to be in really good shape.... talking to some of the drivers they said it was pretty rough....BUT....this was the first night on the track for racing and with the weather we have been having I thought it looked good..!!

Also was impressed at how smoothe the first night of racing went......

Sad to see such a low car count and I hope it doesn't hurt Flora with starting their season so late in the month....but... it could not be helped... I know I saw where a few complained because they called the race off for cold and windy weather a couple of weeks ago....but I had to agree with them.... it was an awful night and I dont think they would have drawn much of a crowd....

Pulling into the parking lot you could see the car count was low....

The announcer this year is Jim Norton and I might add he did a fantastic job...... the flagman this year is Dan Shipman...and he also did a good job....

I always enjoy going to this track and seeing all my friends.... I know many of the drivers there as well and makes the racing very enjoyable...
As I was heading to my seat in the bleachers Jim the announcer shouted out a hello to me.... how sweet !!

Not long after I got settled in one of the hornet drivers I met a couple of years ago came up to say hello... he has a new car this year so I updated his interview... You will have to go check it out..... it is the #35 hornet driver LYNN LASH.... he had donated some hats for the ticket drawing for the fans tonight..... that was really sweet...
At intermission time Jimmy Bone, jr. came over to say hello.... he is the one that always drives the car with the stars and stripes scheme.... he said this year he had changed it to white and yellow with some red trim.... said he thought he would change it this year hoping it would bring him some luck and help get him that track championship he is so wanting to win...

J R Dunlap carried the flag around the track during the National Anthium

As I said...there were only 7 modified so that means one heat..
66 of Michael Fox and the 2x of Harms was on front row with #88 of Dugger and #22s of Kinder 2nd row, 3rd row was Jesse Snyder and #94 of Kelby Simmons..bringing up tail was Bob Simmons.
Michael Fox and Chad Kinder was battling it out for that front spot.. over on the back side Kinder got into Fox trying to get around him... Fox gave Chad a loving tap in the rear to let him know he didn't appreciate the love tap he had received .....
a caution came out for the X of Jesse Snyder who in the mean time had stopped on the track in turn three...Finish was : Chad Kinder...Michael Fox...Kelby Simmons...Harms....Bob Simmons...Bill Dugger....

At the intermission time the winners of the kids fan club picked their two favorite drivers to come out get their pictures taken with...The two chosen were Chad Kinder and Michael Fox..... neither one came on the track..... unfortunately both were working on their cars during break.... I felt bad for the kids...

In the feature for the modifieds it was a repeat of the heat with Chad and Michael going at it.... Chad did take the lead and before the finish had lapped some cars.... his car was looking good as was Michael Fox's......
FINISH:
1..#22S CHAD KINDER
2..#66 ...MICHAEL FOX
3..#94 ..KELBY SIMMONS
4...X....JESSE SNYDER
5..88...BILL DUGGER

caution comes out for the #7 who stops on track...
JR Dunlap got out to the lead and held on for a few laps when all of a sudden he pulls out.....now M J Wheat is in the lead
Finish: M J Wheat...Josh Griffith...Contor....Henderson... Waggle
The feature you had 83 and 43 on front row....2nd row was #77 and Griffith....3rd row was 8 and 88..4th row was Henderson and 51..5th row was 468 and Dennis Waggle..last row was Dunlap
the blue #51 pulls off the track......on the back stretch the #88 gets into #43...the #88 pulls off the track...Jr Dunlap and Griffith bumped each other in turn 4....JR pulls off after making it all the way up to 6th....coming out of turn four the 51 gets into the #00..the #51 pulls off...
Finish: MJ Wheat...83....8...Griffith...Henderson...Dennis Waggle...#468..

In the hornets you had two heats

*the #35 and the #01 get together in the back stretch causing the #35 of Lash to stop on edge of track..no caution...
the #71 got out to an early lead but the #14 of Timmy Snelling slowly but surely reeled him in taking over the lead......
Finish was:
Timmy Snelling
Jimmy Bone , jr
Payne
Jason Jones
and from there I dont know.....

Wish there had been more cars there... needed more fans in the stands....
hoping it gets better next week....

On my way out I stopped to say hello to Margene and her sister and talked to Jeneen and Melissa....
I found out grandpa Richard and grandma Margene are going to be welcoming in two new grandbabies thanks to Jeneen and Kim...
CONGRATULATIONS !!!!!!!! That will make fourteen grandbabies for the Burmeisters.... how nice it must be at Christmas...

Seriously, is this used all the time? I get the point, it's not actually tied to the upper suspension, but to the bulkhead, and therefor probablly legal, have had any probs with it being questioned yet?

JR was Paducah's 2009 street stock track champion and currently in the top 10 in the nation.

Here is a neat story on JR that WSIL did http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V9bboI2yz0w
