thursday...
We headed to Drakesville, Kentucky at ten oclock a.m. We had never been to Soggy Bottom so wanted to get down and check the area out... We knew leaving that the possibility for RAIN was great... but... we chose to go..
We camped at GREGORY LAKE RV PARK.... it was 25 miles from the racetrack.... very nice lake.....
We got settled and headed to the track...... "oh my".... when you are use to flat ground...seeing tracks and bleachers built in the side of a hill is something to get use to..... we pulled up to the track and I took some pictures... track looked really good.... looking at the bleachers on the side of the hill all I was thinking was .."my back"....lol...
While we were looking around a young lady at the very top of the hill hollared down and asked if she could help...we explained that we had never been there and was checking it out..she told us to come up the hill....Cheryl was very helpful and gave me a couple of numbers to a bed and breakfast and a motel there in town for me to pass on to some Illinois people...
The weather was fine...no rain all day...... we sit around the campfire and ate our hotdogs and about 8:30 pm we got a light sprinkle...
At 7:00 a.m..................DID I SAY 7:00 A.M................my phone started going off.....no way was I going to answer it....but ...the person on the other end.............CHAD KINDER.............. was very persistent.... I finally answered and he said it was about time.... I said I didn't answer the phone that early in the morning.... he told me that he gets up every morning at five a.m. so everyone needs to be up......I DON'T THINK SO... I told him that was fine but I was not going to answer the phone...lol.... He wanted to know what the weather was like and if I had heard if Soggy Bottom was racing..... told him weather was fine but I would call Cheryl and call him back...
Cheryl said they were racing but saturday looked real iffy..............so...called Kinder and he said to the boys "load her up were headin out...".....
I noticed that I had a text from Will Snyder from early morning.... it said...."I can't be at the campground so just pretend that I am there pounding on your door!".............lol...... and he would be if he were there......
With all the walking it would have taken up and down the hills I decided not to go to the pit area.....we left for the track around five...right before we left Gennie Bare text me and said her, Nicole and Jenna were on their way !!!! YES !!!!!
The race was to start at seven but that did not happen....Rain was suppose to be in the area at midnight so we were hoping they would speed it up a little....
They only charged $8 to get in and they were going to charge the same saturday for a $3000 to win race...."awesome"...
They have only potta potties which I hate so make sure u take wipes with u to wash your hands....
They had three classes racing...... there were 11 e mods and 6 pro late models along with 28 modified....
I felt bad for the track that they did not have more modified but it was very understandable with the shaky weather all around....
but.... out of those 28 cars there were 8 of the top 10 in ump...... From Illinois you had Chad Kinder, Eddie Shamhart, Everett Bradham and Levi Kissenger ...
In the modified they did group qualifying..............also on cautions they have a double line restart with lead car in front and then on last five it is single file restart..... they use transpnders which really saved time on lining up cars after a caution....
Fast qualifier of each group was : 1...Trent Young #17...16.971...........(2) Levi Kissenger #8..15.869..........(3) Daryl Herbert #6...16.168.........(4) Devin Gilpin #1g...15.772..............Chad was 2nd with 16.028

a caution comes out.....................not sure for what.... no cars were stopped on track... no crash...... dust was really bad and Kinder and Young had lapped several cars...

was a nice night of racing...... while the modified was on the track it was lightning and a few sprinkles fell.... we Kinder fans went to the pit area to congratulate Kinder and Team #22..... after a few minutes it started raining pretty good.... the boys were going to stay over night and see if they got to race.....unforunately that didn't happen....
The boys headed home and we stayed for another night at Gregory Lake..... it was nice all day but boy when that storm hit it was vicious..... my daughter Michelle called me from Indiana and asked if we were still in Kentucky ... I said yes.... she said "well get out of the camper.... bad stuff it about to hit you.... we got into the truck and went to the bottom of the hill and into Drakesboro to a restaurant and waited out the storm..... very strong wind and hard rain..... after it went thru.... rest of day and evening was very nice....
Today when we got up it was really nice.... loaded up and headed home...when we hit Indiana it rained on us the rest of way home....
Enjoyed the weekend !!!!
